FAQ

Questions people ask

Is a consulting agreement different from a freelance agreement?

The structure is similar. A consulting agreement focuses on advice and time spent, so it usually has an hourly or daily rate, a cap on hours and reporting, and says the client remains responsible for its own decisions.

Is this legal advice?

No. Contracts.tools gives you an editable draft written in plain language and explains common clauses. It does not know your situation or the law where you live, and laws vary by country and state. Have the draft reviewed, ideally by a lawyer where you work, before anyone signs it.

Is what I type uploaded anywhere?

No. The draft is assembled in your browser and the PDF and Word files are created on your device. What you type is kept only in this browser’s local storage so you can come back to it, and you can clear it at any time.

Can I change the wording after downloading?

Yes. Download the Word file (.docx) and edit it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs. You can also copy the plain text. Change anything that does not fit your deal; the template is a starting point, not a fixed form.
